THE Forbidden City Academy in Yantian District of Shenzhen will be inaugurated May 15, kicking off the Forbidden City Academy Forum as a special activity of the 12th ICIF.

The ceremony unveiling the nameplate of the project will attract a number of celebrities such as State Counselor Wang Jingsheng, Shan Jixiang, director of the Palace Museum, Wang Yamin, deputy director of the Palace Museum, Liu Hui, deputy director of the Palace Museum Publishing House, well-known cultural scholar Wang Luxiang and Zhang Zhikang, vice director of the National Art Museum of China.

On May 15, the Forbidden City Academy will hold a cultural seminar in Yantian, in which Shan Jixiang will deliver a speech on the cultural spirit of the Chinese academy of classical learning. He will share the humanistic connotation of the Chinese culture represented by such academies and have a zero-distance exchange with other experts in this field.

In addition, the Forbidden City Academy will organize a seminar on the afternoon of May 15, to be attended by the above-mentioned celebrities. They will talk about such topics as the historical reasons for the emergence of the Chinese academies of classical learning, the supplement and impact of such academies upon the traditional Chinese education system, the basic spirit of such academy, the main contribution to the Chinese culture made by such academy, the significance of the education of such academy in the revitalization of the Chinese nation, the interpretation of a scholar’s spiritual world through the articles in traditional Chinese study, the relationship between the elegance of study and the culture of gentlemen, and the significance of the Forbidden City Academy in the passing on and inheritance of the Chinese cultural spirit.

In ancient China, the academy of classical learning formed an important part of the traditional Chinese education system, as well as a supplement to the official education system. It was a place not only for studying, but for cultivating the personality of a gentleman. Besides “passing on scriptures” and “recording history,” the scholars should stress “improving morality” and “cultural demeanor.”

Traditional academies of classical learning helped Chinese scholars cultivate their elegant and lofty taste, as well as their imagination and creativity.

This explains why the Study Furnishing Art Featuring “Work of Nature and Core of Literature” Show will be held at the Yantian Forbidden City Academy from May 15 to June 15.

In the “Work of Nature” category, a batch of Ming Dynasty style rose wood furniture will be showcased, while in the “Core of Literature” category, some articles and collections for the study will be displayed, including the four precious articles of the writing table, scrolls of paintings and calligraphy, and some other ornaments.
