Cultural exchange events in OCT theme parks, Shenzhen

A RANGE of activities will be held in the Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) theme parks in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China, including Window of the World, OCT Harbor, Happy Valley and Splendid China, to promote cultural exchange during the 12th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), which will be held in Shenzhen between May 12 and 16.

Window of the World will host the Southeast Asia Cultural Festival from May 15 to June 15, with performers from Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines presenting traditional music, handicrafts and dances.

Apart from performances, visitors will also be able to enjoy Thai food and a Thai spa at the theme park. Festooned vehicle parades and cultural carnivals are also scheduled during the festival for visitors to experience the diverse culture of Southeast Asian countries.

In a bid to promote Sino-French cultural exchange, Happy Valley will host various events from May 11 to 16. Two art shows will be hosted May 13 and 14, while Jazz bands and French musicians will take to the stage and French red wine will be offered to attendees.

Themed as “Chinese Tea and French Wine,” cultural galas featuring traditional Chinese and French culture will be held every night from May 12 to 16 in Happy Valley, presenting stage plays, magic shows and both countries’ dancing for audiences.

Sino-French cultural seminars, wine tastings, tea-making classes are also scheduled. A children’s dance competition performed by young dancers from China and France will be held as well.

OCT Harbor will launch an art exhibition themed “People’s Homes” on May 12. A prominent Chinese designer, Zhao Huizhou, who showcased her creations during Milan Fashion Week and designed outfits for female attendees of APEC in 2014, will display her creations during the exhibition to explore the relationships between design, life and home.

Miao, a Chinese ethnic minority, will showcase their traditional embroidery during the exhibition and teach attendees the basic techniques of Miao embroidery.

In Splendid China, an exposition showcasing traditional villages of Chinese ethnic minorities will be hosted from May 12 to 18, with photography exhibitions, theme performances, sport games, bonfire parties and handicraft bazaars scheduled.
